It is an unwillingness to apply oneself towards the wholesome since it indulges only in loafing and falling asleep.What is laziness? It is an unwilling mind, associated with bewilderment-erring, relying on the pleasures of drowsiness, lying down and not getting up. Its function is to obstruct and hinder one in applying himself to positive things.-Abhidharmasamuccaya
Laziness makes all positive things drop away. The Smrtyupasthana states,
The sole foundation of the emotions
Is laziness. If, in whatever exists,
There is found even a trifle of laziness,
It will be just nothing.
